Licensed Land Surveyor

CBM Consulting, LLC is a growing land planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying firm based in Frederick, Maryland. We provide comprehensive development consulting services across Frederick County, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County, with an expanding regional footprint.

We are seeking an experienced Licensed Land Surveyor to join our team and lead survey operations across our service area.

About the Role

As our Licensed Land Surveyor, you will oversee and perform a full range of surveying services supporting land development, subdivision, boundary, and site engineering projects. You will work closely with our planning and civil engineering teams to deliver integrated, client-focused solutions throughout the Maryland regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform and manage boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, subdivision, and construction layout surveys

  2. Prepare and seal survey plats, legal descriptions, and related documents for local jurisdiction review and recordation

  3. Coordinate with Frederick County, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County planning and engineering departments

  4. Oversee field survey crews and review field data for accuracy and completeness

  5. Manage survey project schedules, budgets, and deliverables

  6. Collaborate with planners, engineers, and landscape architects on multidisciplinary projects

  7. Ensure compliance with Maryland State and local jurisdiction standards and regulations

  8. Maintain current knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and best practices

Qualifications

  1. Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in the State of Maryland — required

  2. Minimum 5 years of progressive surveying experience, with land development focus preferred

  3. Demonstrated experience working within Frederick County, Montgomery County, or Prince George's County

  4. Experience in GPS equipment use, data collection and analysis, to include mapping and data conversion, geolocating data and field stakeout using GPS

  5. Proficiency in survey data collection equipment and processing software (Trimble, Leica, or equivalent)

  6. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar CAD/survey software

  7. Strong understanding of Maryland plat recording requirements and local jurisdiction submittal processes

  8. Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills

Entry/Junior level Civil Designer/Engineer in Training (EIT):

1-3 years of production responsibility in technical civil design, drafting and/or development plan processing experience, preferably in Montgomery, Frederick or Prince George's County markets. This position offers a career growth and advancement track through qualifying experience for Civil Engineer licensure requirements and potential future Project Manager role.

Civil Engineer/Project Manager:

2-10 years of production and/or project management responsibility in technical civil design, drafting, processing, review, oversight and quality control of junior level engineers/designers and draftspersons, preferably in Montgomery, Frederick or Prince George's County markets. Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure or ability to quickly establish licensure is preferred.

Candidates will be working on predominantly private sector land development projects in a multi-disciplinary environment alongside planners, landscape architects, environmental scientists and professional land surveyors, with direct interaction with clients, regulatory agencies and decision makers. This position requires the ability to discern and apply applicable regulatory land development codes/standards, regulations, review processes, procedures and schedules to gain construction plan entitlements. Production and management responsibilities may include design and construction plans for: subdivision geometry, grade establishment, roadway plans, stormwater management, storm drain, water and sewer, floodplain studies and technical reports. Autocad Civil 3D proficiency is required.
